Due to "quality control", new students are only accepted every 2 months based on the current club enrollment. Sifu Jeff Macalolooy would like to keep class sizes small to ensure that each student gets personal attention. Regular class attendance is very important. Students who cannot dedicate themselves to the club will be asked to stop training until they can make the full commitment.
Space is limited but you can reserve your spot by coming in and signing up with Liza Macalolooy, our Business Administrator, at the Dragons Den Kajukenbo Club or contact her at DragonsdenClub@yahoo.com.  Please e-mail her for information on the next new student White Belt Workshop.

Enrollment for the Filipino Martial Arts Program is open. Please feel free to come in and watch a class or contact Sifu Arnel Mendoza at dragon_sticks@yahoo.com

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Kajukenbo?

Kajukenbo is the first truly American Martial Art founded in 1947. In Hawaii, 5 Masters calling themselves the "Black Belt Society" began to create a new art by blending Tang Soo Do (Korean Karate), Boxing, Se Keino Ryu Judo, Kodenkan Danzan Ryu Ju-Jitsu, Kosho Ryu Kenpo, Escrima (Filipino Weaponry), and Chinese Boxing (Chu'an Fa Kung-Fu). The name of the style is an acronym that represents each of the 5 main styles. Ka Ju Ken Bo

2. What is the "White Belt Workshop?"

The Workshop is designed to be an orientation for new students. It is an introductory lesson. Students will be taught the traditions and etiquette of Kajukenbo and the Dragons Den. They will also learn basic stances, strikes, blocks, kicks, and how to fall and roll correctly. New students are required to attend a Workshop before they can join the regular classes. The next New Student/White Belt Workshop is on  Sunday, June 4, 2006.
Kids from 1:00-2:00 / 2:00-3:30 for Adults

Please contact Liza, our Business Administrator for more information or just drop by the club!

3. How old do you have to be?

Children must be at least 6 years old and have finished kindergarten. Children and adults of all ages should consult a physician before beginning training.

4. What is the training like?

Kajukenbo training is very intense. Students are encouraged to make contact in order to simulate real life situations. Techniques are not "watered-down". Karate kicks, rapid Kenpo hand strikes, Judo takedowns, Ju-Jitsu locks, and soft, circular movements of Kung Fu characterize Kajukenbo Self-defense Techniques. Western Boxing and Wrestling are also incorporated into sparring, teaching each student how to fight standing up, as well as on the ground.

Sifu Jeff Macalolooy, believing in change, is always improving the class by implementing new knowledge and allowing the art to continue growing. His interpretation of Kajukenbo is very progressive, although he still teaches the traditional, classical techniques as well.

For kids’ 6-14 years old, the focus is on teaching respect, self-discipline, building self-confidence, and learning effective self-defense.

In the adult class, we focus on street self-defense. Cardiovascular endurance and flexibility are also addressed.

The goal of the Dragons Den Kajukenbo Club is to create well-rounded martial artists and to help each student reach their potential.
